On this page, we’re going to take a look at several of the Australian universities that are consistently ranked in top 100 lists from around the world year after year. These Universities are known as the Group of Eight and are organized as thus. We hope that these snapshots will help you get an idea of the type of education that you will be receiving by studying in Australia.

Australian National University

The Australian National University is considered to be one of the best universities in the entire world. It was established in 1946 by the Parliament of Australia and is the only university to have been established in this way. ANU was originally a postgraduate research university, but expanded to undergraduate studies when it merged with the Canberra University College. It is located in Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).

The campus has seven teaching and research colleges. It also has several national institutes that are affiliated with the University. As of 2011, there were over 10,000 undergraduate students attending the university. There are also 8,283 postgraduate students who are earning Master’s and Doctorate degrees. The University has approximately 4,000 staff, including full time and part time professors and other necessary staff.

Monash University

Monash University, usually referred to as Monash, is located in Melbourne, the capital of the Australian state of Victoria. Monash was originally founded in 1957, and is both a member of Australia’s Group of Eight and of the M8 Alliance of Academic Health Centers, Universities, and National Academies (the only Australian university to have this distinction).

Monash University is the largest university in Australia in terms of student body size; they enroll about 45,000 undergraduates and 15,000 postgraduates every single year. It is also the university that has more applicants than any other university located in the state of Victoria. The university has several major research facilities associated with it, including the Australian Synchrotron, the Monash STRIP (Science, Tech, Research, and Innovation Precinct), and the Australian Stem Cell Center. There are over 100 other research centers associated with the university, making it an ideal choice for those who are considering a career in medical research.

The University of Melbourne

The University of Melbourne was established in 1853 and is located in Melbourne, Victoria. The University of Melbourne is the oldest in the state of Victoria, and is often considered to be the most prestigious university in the entire country. Many lists of top universities worldwide will place the University of Melbourne at the top of their lists.

There are currently almost 40,000 students that study at the University of Melbourne (over 3,000 of those students are doctoral students). They have several campuses across the state of Victoria. The university has 11 separate academic units and is associated with some of the best research centers in the country. There are also 15 graduate schools associated with the university that are located across the country. Their business school, law school, and medical school are among the best in the world.

The University of New South Wales

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) was founded in 1949. The university is based in Kensington, which is a suburb of Sydney. According to world rankings, the University of South Wales is one of the best universities in Australia and is in the ranks of the Australian National University and Melbourne when you look at top 100 lists.

The basis of UNSW is research, and there are currently over 50,000 students enrolled in over 600 different programs (both graduate and undergraduate). There are 76 schools, 69 research centers, four teaching hospitals, and eight residential colleges associated with the university. It takes over 5,000 full-time and part-time staff to run the entire university every year.

The University of Queensland

The University of Queensland’s main campus was established in the suburb of St. Lucia in 1909. It has several other campuses located throughout the state, including some satellite facilities. There are currently over 45,000 students enrolled at the University of Queensland yearly, with almost 13,000 of those students at the postgraduate level of study. The University of Queensland maintains a number of major research institutes and centers based on national, state, university, faculty and school levels, and are recognized worldwide for its contributions to research in a variety of fields.

The University of Sydney

The University of Sydney was founded in 1850, making it the oldest university in Australia. The university is one of the most prestigious in the world (as high as number 25 on some lists) and has a great reputation for excellence in education. The University of Sydney has associated with a number of Nobel Prize and Crafoord laureates, whether as faculty or graduates.
There are currently over 30,000 undergraduate and over 15,000 postgraduate students who are attending the University of Sydney. There are a number of schools in the university, each school offering bachelor’s level, master’s level, and doctorate level degrees.

The University of Western Australia

The University of Western Australia was established by the Western Australian Parliament in 1913. The University is currently affiliated with some of the best research institutes in Western Australia, and has been a member of the Group of Eight since its inception. There are currently about 25,000 students at UWA (19,000 undergraduates, 6,000 postgraduate).

The University of Adelaide

The University of Adelaide is a public university established in the city of Adelaide in 1874 (making it the third oldest university in Australia). The University currently enrolls over 25,000 students, including 5,758 students. This university is a great choice for any international student due to its location, its devotion to excellence, and because you will have thousands of other students who are studying overseas like you are.
